OWD in Salesforce

What are Organization-Wide Defaults (OWD) in Salesforce?

OWD settings control the default access level for an object's records. These settings provide a baseline access level for records and determine which records users can see or edit, regardless of whether they own those records or not.

Types of OWD in Salesforce:
  1. Private: Only the record owner and users above them in the role hierarchy can see and edit the record.
  2. Public Read Only: All users can see the records, but only the owner and those above them in the role hierarchy can edit them.
  3. Public Read/Write: All users can see and edit the records.
  4. Controlled by Parent: Used in master-detail relationships where the child object's access settings are controlled by the master (parent) object.
