Lookup Relationship in Salesforce

Lookup Relationship in Salesforce:

In Salesforce, a Lookup relationship is a type of relationship that links two objects together. It allows you to connect a record from one object to a record from another object, making it easy to organize and associate data.

Characteristics of a Lookup Relationship:
  • (a) Independence: The linked objects are independent. Deleting one record does not directly affect the other.
  • (b) Optional: The lookup field can be left empty; it is not mandatory to link records.
  • (c) Security and Sharing: The security and sharing settings for the related objects are independent.

How to create a Lookup Relationship in Salesforce:
  1. Go to Setup and navigate to the Object Manager.
  2. Choose the object where you want to add the lookup field.
  3. Go to the Fields & Relationships section and click "New."
  4. Select "Lookup Relationship" and click "Next."
  5. Choose the object you want to link to and follow the on-screen instructions.
  6. Configure the field label, name, and other settings.
  7. Set layout and page settings as needed, then save.
