Basic Working & Cabling in Computer Networks:


1. Basic Working of a Computer Network:
The main purpose of a computer network is to exchange data between various devices. The functionality of a network depends on key elements like data transmission (in packets), network topology, protocols (like TCP/IP), and network devices (routers, switches, etc.).

2. Cabling in Computer Networks:
Cabling is crucial for data transmission in a network. Different types of cables are used, suitable for different speeds, distances, and applications.
  • Twisted Pair Cable: The most common type, used in most LANs. Comes in Unshielded (UTP) and Shielded (STP) varieties.
  • Coaxial Cable: Has a single copper wire as a conductor, commonly used for cable TV and internet connections.
  • Fiber Optic Cable: Transmits data through light. It offers high bandwidth and is immune to electrical interference.

Advantages and Challenges of Cabling:
Advantages: Provides connectivity and reliability.
Challenges: Distance limitations, installation costs, and environmental impacts.
