  • Both hypertext and hypermedia are an integral part of multimedia. 
  • While hypertext is useful for text-based linking, hypermedia provides a rich and interactive experience by integrating various multimedia components. 
  • With the help of both, user access to information and their experience is made simple and effective.
  • Multimedia is a medium in which various types of content such as text, graphics, audio, video, and animation are used. 
  • It includes various techniques to provide an interactive experience to the user. 
  • Hypertext and hypermedia are two important components of multimedia that help in structuring and presenting information.
What is hypertext?

  • Hypertext is a type of text in which words or phrases are linked. By clicking on these links, the user gets the facility to access related information or other documents.
Features:

  • Linked Text: In hypertext, the text is designed in such a way that it is linked to other documents or webpages.
  • Navigation Facility: The user is allowed to easily navigate between different parts of the document.
  • Non-linear Structure: In this, the information is not presented in a linear form, but the user can navigate according to their needs.
Example:

  • Link on a webpage (hyperlink), such as the "About Us" page of a website.
  • Wikipedia, where various words are linked to other articles.
What is hypermedia?

  • Hypermedia is an advanced form of hypertext. In this, not only text but also content like audio, video, graphics, and animation can be linked.
Features:

  • Inclusion of multimedia content: Hypermedia uses other mediums besides text.
  • Interactivity: The user can interact between different mediums according to their choice.
  • Comprehensiveness: Hypermedia makes the multimedia experience richer.
Example:

  • Other video or channel links in a YouTube video.
  • Multimedia applications, such as educational software, which include text, video, and interactive quizzes.
Importance:

  • Easy access to information: Hypertext and hypermedia help users to find and access information quickly and easily.
  • Education and training: These techniques are very useful for effectively presenting educational material.
  • Business and advertising: Hyperlinks and multimedia are used in brand promotion and customer engagement.
