Data Communication

What is Data Communication:

Data Communication is the process of transferring digital information between two or more points. It enables devices to talk to each other and share resources.

Five Key Components of Data Communication:
  • Message: The information (data) to be communicated. It can be text, numbers, pictures, audio, or video.
  • Sender: The device that sends the data message.
  • Receiver: The device that receives the data message.
  • Transmission Medium: The physical path by which a message travels from sender to receiver. Examples include twisted-pair wire, coaxial cable, fiber-optic cable, and radio waves.
  • Protocol: A set of rules that governs data communication. It represents an agreement between the communicating devices. Without a protocol, two devices may be connected but not communicating.
