Association Rules in RDBMS:

Association Rule learning is a key technique in data mining used to discover interesting relationships or "associations" among variables in large datasets. It is famously used for Market Basket Analysis, which helps retailers understand the purchase patterns of customers.

Key Concepts:
  • Association Rule: An "if-then" statement that shows the probability of relationships between data items. For example, "If a customer buys diapers, then they are likely to buy beer."
  • Support: A measure of how frequently an itemset appears in the dataset.
  • Confidence: A measure of how often the "if-then" statement is found to be true.
  • Lift: Measures the strength of the relationship between items, beyond what would be expected by chance.

By applying these rules to data in an RDBMS, businesses can make better decisions on product placement, marketing, and promotions.
