National Parks & Wildlife Sanctuaries

Rajasthan has a rich biodiversity protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. The state has several National Parks, Tiger Projects, and Wildlife Sanctuaries. Conservation efforts include the protection of specific species like the Great Indian Bustard, Blackbuck, and Tigers.

National Parks and Tiger Projects

  • Ranthambore National Park (Sawai Madhopur): The first Tiger Project in the state. Famous for Tigers, Leopards, and Crocodiles.
  • Keoladeo National Park (Ghana, Bharatpur): A world-famous bird sanctuary. Known for Siberian Cranes (in winter) and over 113 species of foreign migratory birds.
  • Mukundra Hills (Darrah): Located in Kota and Chittorgarh. Declared a National Park to protect its dense forests and wildlife.
  • Desert National Park (Jaisalmer/Barmer): Established in 1981. Famous for Godawan (Great Indian Bustard) and Wood Fossils (Akal Wood Fossil Park).
  • Sariska (Alwar): A Tiger Reserve famous for Tigers, Leopards, and Green Pigeons.

There are 33 Hunting Prohibited Areas in Rajasthan covering 26,720 sq km. Jodhpur has the highest number (7), followed by Bikaner (5).
